Arctic Fox FAQ's

Blog How to

Do I need to lighten or bleach my hair first?
You can dye without your hair with Arctic Fox without bleaching or lightening, however you'll get different results depending on what level your hair is. If you want the brightest colour, on the colour spectrum, you'll need to be in a blonde range, (around level 8 or above for most colours). If you have darker hair, the colour will become dark and subtle, However, it may be difficult to see in regular indoor lighting. Pastel shades most likely won’t show up. We always recommend doing a strand test before applying it all over.
What colours work best on unbleached hair?
In regards to unbleached hair you would want to stick with our most pigmented colours like Purple Rain, Wrath, Phantom Green, or Aquamarine.
How long does the colour last?
It can depend on a few factors such as the colour you are using, the level of your hair, and your personal hair care regimen. On average the colour typically lasts between 4-8 weeks. We have formulated our colour to be one of the longest lasting semi-permanents available but for the best results you will have to take care of your colour.

Here are some tips to help you with the longevity:
-Shampoo in cold water (as cold as you can stand it)
-Use sulphate free and silicone free shampoo and conditioner, colour safe if possible!
-Invest in dry shampoo (frequent shampooing will fade the colour)
-Stay away from alcohol-based styling products, since they are drying and will fade the colour
-Turn down temperature settings on heat styling tools (high heat will strip colour)
-Avoid swimming pools and the ocean!
-Add in some leftover colour to your conditioner to keep colour fresher, longer!

How long can I keep an open bottle of dye?
An opened bottle of Arctic Fox Hair Colour can still be used up to 12 months after opening. If it’s unopened it should last up to 2 years! As long as it is stored in a cool and dry place.
Do I need to use a developer/activator?
No developer/peroxide is needed! All of our colours are semi-permanent direct dyes, so they are ready to use straight from the bottle! You can mix/customize any colour by adding Arctic Mist Diluter or another colour from the Arctic Fox Hair Colour line!

What is Arctic Mist for? Will it make my hair white?
Our Arctic Mist diluter is not a dye or lightening product. It has no pigment, and if applied on its own will have no effect on the hair colour - while it has a slight toning property, it will only help maintain a white hair colour if the hair is already lightened to that level, and will not further lighten the hair. It is meant specifically to be mixed with other dyes to make pastel shades, or as a base for mixing custom colours.
Do I have to use Arctic Mist to dilute the dye or can I use a conditioner?
If you are going to dilute a colour, we recommend using Arctic Mist since it is specifically formulated to work with our colours. Conditioners may contain oils or silicone, which can prevent the dye from taking properly, which can occasionally result in a patchy application and/or unpredictable results. If you do decide to use a conditioner to dilute a colour, choosing one that is colourless, sulphate-free and silicone-free will give you the best chance at a good result!
