How To Get Effortless Waves

Create effortless waves for ALL hair lengths with these top tips from our experts.
3 ways, 3 waves.

1. Using a hair straightener
It's all in the flick of the wrist, and nailing the transition into the half turn.
  • Starting with a small section of hair, clamp down your straightener wherever you want your curl to start. If you want a longer laster curl, go closer to the root.

  • Pull the straightener down the hair shaft as if you were going to straighten your hair as normal, stopping at where you want your curl to begin.

  • Pivot the straightener 180 degrees (a half-turn) away from your face and gently pull the straightener down straight through the rest of your hair. Repeat for each section of hair. Keep the ends of the curl slightly straight for beachy waves.

2. Using an air curling wand
Perfect for those of us who have totally damaged our hair, sorry not sorry.
Air curlers use lower heat temperatures and if you use a thermal protector spray, you'll help keep your hair intact.

3. Using a wave wand for short hair
The mermade mini is really the answer to our short hair dreams. This will literally take a matter of minutes thanks to the 3 x barrel design. Close to no skill required here, it's the perfect quick and easy answer we have been searching for!

Pro tips from our experts:

Add extra texture voluminizing powder or sea salt spray

Creating tighter curls on the underside will help to create a bouncy, voluminous look.
Really short on time?
Curl your hair while it's in a high ponytail and then let your hair down for quick, effortless waves.
Don't drag your curl downward with the clip or let it fall off the wand before letting it cool in your hand. This will allow your curl to set, resulting in longer-lasting curls.
